A Superior Steam Iron – No Rowenta Steam Iron Comes Close to This One

This steam iron is EVERYTHING as advertised. It is light in weight, but powerful. I particularly like the digital “mode” display that provides the best application of heat and steam dependent upon the material. The ironing was smooth and easy. Steam was perfect for the variation of material I was ironing – linen, cotton, polyester blends, etc.All indicators on the steam iron and instructions were easy to use and follow.I recently purchased a Rowenta steam iron. The instructions were unnecessarily complicated, it had a “dial” type steam indicator that was hard to read from under the handle. The Rowenta was heavier. The instructions stated NOT to begin ironing until the power light indicator turned off. This is when the iron is supposed to reache the precise level of heat/steam. I waited 20 minutes for the light indicator to go off. The iron never got hot and it leaked water as a result of never reaching the desired temperature. I immediately returned the Rowenta and bought this iron. I am so happy I did.

Smooth Performance with Smart Features – No Issues So Far

I’ve been using this iron for about 2 months and so far, it’s been great. It heats up quickly, the ceramic soleplate glides smoothly, and the steam output is strong and consistent. The digital temperature control and LED display are easy to use and give it a high-end feel.I’ll admit I was a little hesitant at first since I didn’t recognize the brand, but it’s performed better than expected. No leaks, no weird quirks, just solid performance. Hopefully it holds up long term, because right now, it’s one of the best irons I’ve used at this price point.

Irons well, steam function mediocre, ergonomics OK

The iron irons my clothes just fine, temperature is good, soleplate is smooth. Good price.Hand ergonomics: a little interesting; first of all, it’s quite large and heavy. I think I prefer a smaller iron for nooks and crannies as I’m usually ironing around a collar, around buttons, around pockets, and hardly ever large areas like a bedsheet or pillowcase. I also think the area where you press your hand down on the handle is too far back. I usually want to press down on the tip around buttons (precision!), but the steam burst/water spray buttons are right there. The handle is positioned in a way that if you were to press down, you press on the heel of the iron. I would prefer they move all the controls and handle further forward relative to the soleplate.Steam function: Probably the worst feature on this iron. Works fine, but the anti-drip feature is a bimetallic ‘popper’ that will turn off the water flow from the tank onto the soleplate (creating steam) if the temperature is too low. You will hear this thing click on and off. It will not create steam (at all!) if it is popped into the closed mode. The manual claims that this is how they prevent drips when used on a lower heat. However, I think it’s a little overzealous as you need it on nearly maximum temperature mode to generate any steam at all, otherwise the temp is too low for the popper to open. I think I would prefer the iron without this popper, risking drips instead.Worst case, I can still spritz the clothing with a spray bottle and iron it the old fashioned way, and it still generates “steam” by ironing damp clothing on a lower temp setting. 1700 watts is good enough to stay hot even ironing over cold, wet clothing. I’m sad that steam iron technology has not come further in the last 15 years (I had an old iron that similarly dripped and whatnot and I reverted to using a spray bottle… and that was 15 years ago).Self clean feature is a little weird, water doesn’t flow out as fast as they seem to advertise. It just dumps water onto the hot soleplate and generates a lot of steam, which I believe could be effective at cleaning? But not fully convinced.Lastly, they claim you can use tap water in it and not to use distilled water, but I am calling their bluff as an “amateur” chemist (took several chemistry courses throughout college… I know) – there is no way distilled water is more corrosive than tap water. If it ends up leaking/failing due to my usage of distilled water, I will update this review; in the meantime I will enjoy zero calcification.

    Good price. Very capable iron.

I’m writing this detailed review because I found the subject of researching, purchasing, and using under-performing irons so annoying and hoping this will help you avoid the same. This review applies to my personal application and experience. Both of those may differ for you.First some context for this review. I pretty much exclusively use the iron to iron my long sleeve dress shirts for work. I work fast and need an iron that can keep up with me (producing steam) as I iron, set the iron down, move the shirt to the next position, iron set the iron down etc. about 10 times per shirt. I set the iron to ‘Cotton” and get busy. I just need an iron that constantly produces plenty of steam. I don’t use the spray or vertical steam features. It takes me about 3 minutes per shirt – which is faster and cheaper than making trips to the cleaners. I have not had any of the irons long enough to provide a long-term or reliability review. If anything annoying occurs I will come back and edit this review if I am able.I purchased and tested each of these irons on the same shirts (pic)1) First purchase: Rowenta Focus $87Summary: this iron could not keep up with me. Seemed to produce steam randomly in short bursts when it felt like it. I often found myself ironing soleplate down without any steam at all. I thought the unit must be defective. I returned in exchange for another one. Same issue with the second one.I would return it if I could, but am outside the return window. I would not recommend this iron. Will be donating this to charity. Maybe it will suit someone else better. Will not bother with Pros & Cons here.2) Second purchase: Rowenta Steamforce $152Summary: upon opening, it was clear that this was a unit had already been ordered and returned by another customer. Based on past experience accepting somebody else’s return is a nonstarter – especially at this price point. This is not the first time Amazon has sent someone else’s reject as new. Very disappointing. I returned in exchange for another one. The second one arrived in new and unused condition – although I wish the manufacturer would seal the box at the factory so it is clear if the box has been previously opened.Pros:- Slick easy gliding soleplate- Plenty of steam- Simple light indicating fabric setting (pic)- Narrow nose for tight spaces- Simple on/off steam setting (I don’t need anything in between)Cons:- Price – yikes!- Easy to accidentally hit fabric selection dial and change setting. Frustrating.- A little bit of non-consequential spittingThis was the best of the three irons for my needs. Would recommend.3) Third purchase: PurSteam Professional Grade 1800-Watt Iron with Digital LCD Screen $42Summary: this one arrived in a box properly sealed by the manufacturer – easy to tell that I was the first person opening the box. Thank you!Pros:- Great price- Sufficient steam- LED fabric selector – No manual dial to knock out of position. Yay! Thank you! (pic)- Easy to fill water tankCons:- Literally ran out of steam when tank reached 25% full (pic)I would recommend this iron. Instead of returning, I will keep as a very capable backup.Hope this review saves you some of the time and grief I experienced. If anyone has recommendation for a top-notch ironing board cover, I’d be happy to hear about it.

    Best iron

For years I have avoided putting water in my iron because of a history of leakage with the various irons I’ve tried. This one advertised no leakage, and because I am on a project that really needs steam I decided to go for it and get a dedicated steam iron and leave my other iron for dry ironing. The first thing I noticed is that the well that holds water is about 2 or 3 times as large as the well on other irons I’ve owned. It is a good thing too….this baby puts out the steam! It has a couple safety features like auto shut off if left unmoved too long, if laying down flat, or if tipped on its side. I keep my irons on a serge protector and just turn the power off completely when I am done, so don’t really find the auto shut off if it is unmoved a bonus feature. I guess the turn off when flat or on its side is okay, I’ve never really needed it.Two things I have noticed about the iron and you can decide if it is good or bad. The iron is quite a bit heavier than other irons I have owned. Personally, I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing…I don’t carry it around. I also think the added weight might help iron in knife edge pleats and folds, as well as help get rid of wrinkles. The second thing I noticed just recently occured. I am in the middle of ironing several large pieces (think banquet table cloths or sheets), and while I am ironing the red light comes on to let me know the iron is not up to temperature. At first I stood the iron on its end to let it come back up to temperature before I continued the item I was working on. I noticed the red light coming on more frequently, and decided I couldn’t keep stopping and waiting for it to heat up. If the temperature really did drop, it wasn’t noticeable, because I was able to keep working. I am not sure if it is an issue with the lights, or if the iron can actually cool off while you’re using it. For now I will keep an eye on it and will update if there really is a problem with it holding the temperature. I don’t plan on buying another iron for several years, but if I needed one, I would probably buy this again. So far it does a good job and I like the volume of steam it puts out.***Update*** I had a issue with the iron so reached out to the Pur Steam customer service department. In all my (many, many) years of shopping, I don’t think I have ever had better customer service. They responded promptly, resolved my issue and the whole time were incredibly professional and helpful. I highly recommend the iron and the company. Thanks Daisy at Pur Steam for the help and GREAT customer service.

Sturdy, yet lightweight. I haven’t had an issue with it leaking!! Steaming feature is more than adequate. I only use distilled water!! Large water capacity so it cuts down ironing time!

Great Customer Service for a Great Iron *REVISED AND IMPROVED REVIEW*

I’m not even going to keep my first review up because really it just focused on the steam function, and I got a bad copy and was really bummed about it. Honestly – it happens… but PUR’s customer service swept in and saved the day. They sent me an email explaining where the faulty part must have been and they QUICKLY sent me a whole new Iron free of charge. So now I get to write the review I WANTED to write when I first got this Iron!PUR is the company that makes what are probably the most well-known upright steamers, you know, for things like curtains and Dresses and Suits. I think that’s why this is such a good iron for the price. And So – It’s definitely a light-to-medium weight iron. You can see I have two others I’m comparing it to today. An expensive ORECK and a popular Rowenta – those are both a little heavier, (before adding water of course. And they’re a LOT more expensive than the PUR).I find it well balanced and it holds plenty of water for steam. It doesn’t have the trendy bottle-nose tip, but honestly aside from some shirts and blouses, that slightly more narrow tip on the Rowenta doesn’t really make much difference on most common things you’d be ironing.HEAT: The PUR definitely has a higher top-heat than the others, so be careful. Now if you need to tackle a whole basket of cotton dinner napkins or a cotton canvas chair cover or canopy – this extra heat makes it a lot better.STEAM: The steam has 3 settings; off, low steam, and high steam. chosen by a common and simple thumb lever that’s in the perfect place to move without stopping your flow. The low steam is great for most everything requiring a typical amount of steam help. The high steam is great! It really creates a lot of steam. steam that penetrates really well too.And now the biggie – the upright steaming gem of the “Blast of steam button”. It just flat out wins. The forward puff of steam comes out more forcefully than the Rowenta and the Oreck and travels farther. I should put up videos showing them each. That Rowenta is only a month or two old too, so it would be a great comparison. The PUR iron so totally pushes the steam out harder and farther like it’s PUR big vertical brothers.I wear suits most days and this helps me get wrinkles out pretty much as well as a DEDICATED upright steamer. So that’s a SUPER useful tool. And of course it is exactly what you need for regular ironing too. It’s a great blast of steam, but its not too much that you’re suddenly in a scalding hot cloud or anything. Not at all. And the lever-button feels solid and comfortable under your thumb.Win.The SPRAY function is good too. A big easy to press lever-button and a pretty standard amount of water delivered just ahead of the iron without drips. My bad copy I got at first had steam malfunctions that also led to leaking water onto the work, But the replacement is absolutely fine. No leaking water anywhere at all really. Just like most of the other reviews here say.CORD LENGTH is a bit longer than both the Oreck and Rowenta so that’s another plus.WATER RESERVOIR is good sized and mostly clear so it’s easy to see how much you’ve got in there.Yes, it can empty out fast if you’re using a lot of steam, but that’s just how it goes when you get a lot of steam out of it.FACE PLATE is stainless steel like the Rowenta and most others. You have to clean it from time to time, but that’s just standard.I’ve tried the “ceramic” like the CHI and was pretty disappointed. Didn’t keep it.The Oreck has a masterful TEFLON face plate and almost NOTHING builds up on it, and I wish the PUR or others could have this, but the TEFLON face plates seem to be gone from the market, so maybe it has become a banned chemical thing. I get it…TEFLON is some pretty nasty stuff that you really don’t want in your body.Okay… YES, the temperature dial is STIFF.That’s really the only downside of this otherwise great iron. Lots of other people have pointed it out and they’re not wrong. The positioning and labeling of the dial is pretty standard, but yeah, it can be really hard to turn sometimes. And a little hard to read. If you have a weakness issue or arthritis in your hands or fingers this might not be the iron for you. This is why I pulled off 1-star away from 5-stars and give this great affordable iron a 4 out of 5 review. I wish I could give it 4 and a half stars. It was hard deciding though. Their customer service was AMAZEBALLS. Like good like I’ve never seen before on a product that wasn’t like a car or something. It was a new experience for me and it made me feel like this company intends to stay on top for the RIGHT reasons. Very cool. Thanks Dianne! So many winning attributes to this iron… I use it almost every day, but not for hours and hours or anything – its still home use. Just a busy home, and I occasionally do some word-of-mouth tailoring and alterations on the side. The balance, the longer cord, the great steam, and OH YEAH…it gets hot FAST! I really love that. And the fact that this great tool is as affordable as it is really makes me want to give it 5-stars but the stiff dial could really be a problem for folks with arthritis or some other hand weakness problem. But aside from that one issue I must say that I think this iron is -THE BEST IRON VALUE OUT THERE. * * * *I seriously may buy one or two more as backups at this price. I think that says everything.*AND it’s from a company that has been around and is still basically mostly AMERICAN. (Considering that everything is globalized to some extent nowadays.)But hey guys, don’t go raising the price just because its a great iron at a great price either! Let it be the one everybody has and you’ll stay the superstars.

    Love it! Very steamy!

I had the earlier version of this iron and after 5 years and very heavy use, I’m a quilter, it started to spew rust. Time for a new one! I bought this model, which I just love. The coated iron plate makes ironing super smooth and it has various settings for fabric type and the volume of steam you want to use. Heats up fast and shuts off when not in use. The upgrades with this model and well worth it. The only thing that’s tricky is the slant of the opening to put the water in…they provide a spouted cup to use, which you will need to use or you’ll spill water everywhere. I’ve not used the clean feature yet since it’s brand new and I use distilled water in it (highly recommend to use distilled water!). Very happy with this iron!
