What a super-automatic should be!
I had a high-end espresso maker for years. I enjoyed the coffee but grew weary of all the effort and finally retired and sold my equipment. We recently spent time in Eastern Europe, including 5 days in a hotel with high-quality super-automatic coffee machines. I was initially skeptical but loved my morning lungo! I was even impressed with the cappuccino feature. Surprisingly good foam! So, we return home and I want to keep the lungos coming. I start researching super-automatic machines. I love spreadsheets and assembled one that enabled me to compare features, quality, price and maintenance. Digging out all the info I wanted took time and effort. I finally narrowed down my choices to De’Longhi and one other brand. I then had to decide which models gave me what I wanted. In our case, we want lungo and cappuccino. We did not need more coffee choices. We also wanted true super-automatic capability.I kept coming back to the De’Longhi Magnifica but they made several different machines with the Magnifica label. I was uneasy about the Magnifica lacking a specific lungo button. Well, I learned that this machine’s coffee button is actually a lungo button (a more dilute espresso versus Americano and brewed coffee) and the machine can be adjusted to deliver the strength we prefer.I like the price and features of the Magnifica Evo and that’s what we purchased. When the machine arrived, I was very impressed with the packaging. It is simply excellent! That helped me feel optimistic about the machine. After setting everything out, I was not as impressed with the manuals. The machine appeared to be quite complicated and more maintenance than I expected. After making a first cup of coffee, I liked the results but still found the manuals tedious and hard to follow. I turned to youtube.com. I found quite a few De’Longhi Magnifica videos but was especially impressed with the one by consiglioskitchenware. De’Longhi should put a link to this video in the front of the manual. The presenter showed me how easy it is to work and maintain this machine. The manual now makes a lot more sense. We’ve been using the machine now for a week and I absolutely love it!! The lungos are just what I want: a full-bodied brew with a lovely crema cap and no bitterness! The cappuccinos use a shot of espresso – also beautifully done – and the foam far exceeds what I expected. It’s smooth with fine bubbles, maybe not as good as a high-end espresso shop but very nice for home results. As for the super-automatic features, they get top marks. We adjusted the coffee volume slightly and the machine faithfully remembers our adjustment. I punch the coffee button and I hear the grinder going to work. Then, a slight pause while the water gets set up, followed by the boiler delivering a cup of coffee. Then the machine discharges the used puck into the waste bin. When I turn off the machine or it turns itself off, it uses hot water to clean the coffee delivery line.I was skeptical about the ease of the cappuccino feature, especially foam quality and ease of cleaning. Again, the machine exceeded my expectations. I pour milk into the bottle, plug it back into the machine and hit the button. It starts with beautiful foam and then injects the shot of espresso. When I’m done, the machine has a “clean” button that discharges hot water through the foam delivery system. The milk bottle is easily rinsed and cleaned, and the head and suction tube can be easily hand cleaned or put in the dishwasher.Would I buy this machine again? Absolutely!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE
LOVE LOVE LOVE my espresso maker!!Where do I begin?! Let’s start with the quality, it is incredible. The appearance of the machine and the quality of how it brews coffee/espresso/lattes in phenomenal. The crema is impeccable. One thing that I learned for making sure that your coffee machine runs smoothly is to make sure that your coffee beans aren’t oily (aka beans found at your local grocery store or big chain coffee shop). Try to make sure that you get your beans from a local roastery. This will also ensure that the taste of your coffee is next level.Like with anything, there is a learning curve. I would recommend watching Youtube videos on how to operate. If you are trying to justify this need/want, here is how I reasoned with my husband. We were using a Nespresso machine prior and I loved it. However, the amount of $$ that I was dishing out on the pods every other month would pay for one of these machines after a couple of months (give or take).

Enjoy it but not quite worth the price
I don’t like how quickly it auto turns off. I like to have 2-3 latte’s throughout the morning and prefer to leave a machine on until noon. When it turns off it cleans itself and discharges water so you always have to leave a cup under it, or frequently clean the tray. That’s not the problem, I like that it cleans itself but I don’t like how quickly it auto turns itself off. I made a latte and let it sit there while I was doing chores around the house and it dispensed the discharge water into my latte.. I want to say it turned itself off after 20 minutes. To me that’s ridiculous. If a machine has to perform a function when it’s turned off it should not be an automatic function. The machine should stay on until told to turn off and perform a cleaning cycle.I also really don’t like how for $800 you only get 5 options; latte, cappuccino, espresso, drip coffee, & hot water for tea. That’s it. To me that’s 3 options. The settings are also ridiculously complex and customizing your brew preferences is a HEADACHE. I wish I got the machine with ‘’My latte’ option that seemed easier to customize. It’s also 100% plastic and no real metal is anywhere to be seen on this machine. It looks, and feels, cheap. (Black model, I’m not sure about the SS model). For me, it wasn’t worth the price. I would return it if the packaging wasn’t so complex and I didn’t feel bad about using the machine for a week. It’s good qualities are (but in my opinion are basic and expected for any auto machines) that it heats up quickly, the auto milk frother is very convenient and does a pretty good job. I like that it has two coffee intakes; one for whole bean and one for pre ground so I can make decaf espressos, too. However, what I don’t like about the dual compartment system is that you cannot use the latte, cappuccino, or the double shot quantity options. You can only brew an espresso or a drip coffee from the secondary preground compartment.I also don’t like that the main basin for whole bean coffee is designed so you can dump a bag in there, and then the preground compartment is designed so it can only take one small scoop at a time. The lighting in my kitchen, where this coffee machine is, is not well lit and I did not see the ‘one scoop limit capacity’ logo on the lid and poured too many grinds in there. So, now I get a warning symbol and it will not brew from the preground compartment… but… how am I supposed to get the grinds out? I have to disassemble and shake it upside down???Back to the good… The latte’s taste good but I wouldn’t say it tastes much better than my hand pressed espresso’s, so this machine’s more for the convenience factor than for better tasting coffee. The big difference between the manual machines and this one is how silky it gets the milk and that does enhance the flavor of these drinks from the hand-steamed machines quite a bit. It does make a very silky smooth latte.

Makes a great cup of coffee
Personally I’ve really enjoyed this machine, we had a little Breville previously and we’re not baristas by any means so the tip was always clogged and probably not getting cleaned as it should, so long story short, I watched a bunch of videos and landed on this one and I’m very happy so far and I like that it has all the messages on screen telling you step by step how to do everything, which is what we apparently need in our house. I did have a little issue with a side panel not hooked in properly but I contacted the seller and they quickly helped me resolve it

Excellent machine, very happy with it and would buy again!
First impressions: this is great! Bought for 2nd home, and comparing to a 1 yr old Philips Lattego 5400 that I have in my other house. Both items I got on sale during Amazon Prime days. I like the LatteGo, which is also easy to use. But the Delonghi Magnifica Plus I feel is a definite step above. The components feel sturdier and less plastic. Setup is so easy (on screen instructions match the instruction booklet). What really does it for me is the milk cartridge, since I primarily drink lattes. Delonghi’s milk canister has clearly marked level lines and most importantly, when it cleans itself, there is no water that goes back into the canister. With the Lattego, I never really use the self-clean function because water re-enters the canister during its quick clean and the remaining milk then gets watered down. So then I end up having to pour the milk back into my milk bottle (or drink it), and then manually rinse the whole thing in the sink. Not so with this Delonghi milk canister! When it cleans, water and steam only go down the spout. So I can truly just dump the whole milk canister in the fridge if I have leftover milk. The other thing is that the foam it creates is adjustable and creamier. With the Lattego, you can’t really set foam level and so you just end up with a thick topping of foam that isn’t really a coffee shop equivalent experience.A downside could be that the water filter theoretically needs to be replaced every 2 months, and that could add up. With the Philips, I haven’t been prompted to descale or change the filter yet (I do sometimes use filtered water anyway when refilling the tank).

Satisfying-Disappointing-satisfying!
This coffee machine produces the best coffee, with no complaints from us; however, it is costly and doesn’t always function properly. We ordered it in February and have had issues since the beginning, including the machine not producing any water, loud grinding sounds, and other loud noises. It is very disappointing to spend so much on the machine and have it malfunction so soon after purchasing. We have tried all the suggestions online, but they didn’t help. I give it four stars only because the coffee tastes so good, yet we spend a lot of time cleaning and figuring out what is wrong; the manual has to be kept at the coffee maker. I suggest contacting the company when you have an issue; they typically respond fairly quickly, and their advice was helpful and resolved the problem. Our problem was not the machine but the water filter. Something worth having is worth all the extra time, I guess.

An amazing time-saving and quality espresso maker, without the learning curve.
Bought this after doing extensive research on Super Automatic Espresso machines as a birthday gift for my wife.We are both coffee snobs, and dislike drip coffee machines and most have rubber tubing that eventually seems to impart a flavor into the brew. Because of this, we were using either a Chemex pour-over, or a manual espresso machine. Both consumed a lot of time, and with 3 children and tight schedules, we found it difficult to make the coffee at home and resorted to coffeeshops a few times a week. The ease of use, with its push button selections, allows us to easily start a coffee and walk away to attend to other things in the household as it brews. We purchase our beans from an amazing one-person local roaster, so being able to enjoy a well-brewed cup of our own beans has been a real treat. We’ve owned it for just over 3 months now and have ran into zero issues with it. It automatically alerts to low water and when to empty the spent coffee. One criticism I have is that it doesn’t seem to know when it is about to run low on water, so I’ve created a few doppios in which it would run out of water halfway through the pull. Because of this, I’ve taken to pulling out the water and filling it in the morning, regardless of whether I get a notification or not.Overall, we are extremely satisfied with this machine, and the option to toss in ground beans for a single cup has made it easy to have a decaf espresso after dinner a few nights a week. For the price and the functionality, I’ve been recommending this to so many people in my life, and always offer a cup of coffee to home visitors.

LOVE THIS MACHINE!!
Best decision ever! I wish there were more stars to give it an even better review! We did a lot of research before deciding on this particular machine and it did not disappoint. It makes a perfect espresso every time. It grinds the beans, tamps them and discards them in a container and lets you know when to empty it. I really like that you can store the carafe of milk in the fridge so you don’t waste any if your drink didn’t use the whole amount. It’s also sleek and compact, so it doesn’t take up too much room. So easy to use and we recommend it to everyone. My parents liked it so much that they bought one too.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer –
Just got the machine setup. So far so good. Internal boxes inside the Amazon box arrived damaged.
I’ve been watching video after video of which super-automatic espresso machine to get. I settled on this one as it appears to have the best combination of features, and Amazon had it at a decent price (snagged it for 925 usd on a limited deal sale). When it arrived, it was packed in a typical Amazon shipping box. This outer box is undamaged. The machine is then packed in a Delonghi cardboard box (outer-brown color), and inner blue Delonghi box, so a double-box inside an Amazon box. After unboxing from the Amazon box, I noticed a pretty decent size gash in the outer Delonghi box, on the bottom of the short side (front). Worried the machine was damaged, I opened it, and took out the blue Delonghi box – this box also had a gash in the same spot, so whatever cut into these boxes was pretty big. Now I’m really concerned the machine is damaged. I carefully remove the packaging, look everything over, and it seems ok. From what I can tell, all the included parts are there.Likely this was damaged at the Amazon warehouse or somehow in their package handling process.I did see on some review videos that Delonghi includes some sample coffee in the box, I did not get that. From what I can tell, it doesn’t look like the boxes were opened and resealed. The picture of the machine in the Amazon description also shows 2 small glass and 1 large glass cups in the item listing. These were not in the box.Continuing to setup the machine, I’m following the directions, remove all the packaging, situate it on the counter, and power it on. So far so good. One of the steps it asks you to complete is to setup the internal water tank filter. The directions say to run water into the top of the filter until it’s full. I could not get any water to go into the filter. If I shake the filter, I hear a power inside, but the water won’t go inside from a faucet. The next step it says to submerse the filter in the tank and get the air bubbles out – again, I could not do this, the filter would just float as there was no water inside the filter. Even if I held the filter down in the water, I couldn’t get it to work.I kept going, and inserted the filter into place as shown. The machine then wants to run some flushes. It said to place a container under the water and coffee spouts. Run the flush. The machine started pumping, but made this really loud (unusually loud) pumping sound, like something was jammed. No water was coming out of the water spout – water did however come out of the coffee spout. I pulled the water spout out and placed it again. For some reason, the machine wanted to repeat the flush, then it seemed to work ok.I’ve had that machine in use now for a few days. I still don’t know if whatever damage happened to the boxes caused any internal damage to the machine. This is my first Delonghi, so not sure if the machine is behaving as it should. I’m just worried some time down the road I’m going to have problems and won’t be able to get resolved as a warranty claim.

Very easy set up and use
The name Delongi is associated with quality. We took advantage of a sale and felt we got a good deal. The machine is beautiful enough to keep it out on display. What pleasure to press one button and have a delicious coffee drink. The all in one frother is a bonus. It is easy to load beans and water. Comes apart for easy cleaning too.
