Much love from a frequent traveler!
Away Softside Bigger Carry-On Suitcase, 23 Inch Lightweight, Expandable High-Strength Nylon Luggage With Spinner Wheels, Meets Requirements for Most Major Airlines, Jet BlackI travel a lot- At least 3-4 trips a year but that number will go up soon when I retire. For my husband’s 55th birthday- I invested in a set of luggage that would last him thru our future travels and I chose Away brand for that gift. That has been 5 years ago and 15-20 trips! We have been very happy with that luggage, so much so that when I got the opportunity to have some for myself, I happily jumped in!There are things about hard sided luggage that make me prefer soft sided luggage. As a female I pack my clothes and then use my clothing as padding for all of my toiletries and haircare essentials. With a hard sided suitcase, they are split in half and sometimes its harder to get things arranged PLUS it is just awkward opening a suitcase that has half it’s weight in the lid and that’s why I chose soft sided over the hard shell.I have already travelled with this bag and it lived up to all of my expectations of AWAY brand luggage! The wheels glide across surfaces with little effort from me, the zippers are top quality and the water resistant material on the outside of the bag is very durable. I was able to pack 4 days clothing plus all my girl stuff easily into this one carry on bag!Inside the bag is a work of art! There are four zippered areas: Two in the divider, one in the top side near the handle and one in the “lid”.The outside has two discrete zippered compartments as well as an expansion zipper to help you make just a bit extra room for the stuff you buy on your trip, and of course there is the compression pad that you can compress by pulling the nylon straps to hold it all down. The bag is super easy to handle as well. There is a hand handle on the top and side, plus a hidden hand hold on the underside of the bag, making it easier to pick up and lay on its back to get your stuff out at the hotel.I also want to mention- I also got the matching large soft sided bag and its features are identical.

Good quality, a little heavier than the hardshell suitcase
I already own an Away hardshell suitcase, so I wasn’t sure how much I’d like their softside carry-on. After trying it out, though, I’m pleasantly surprised—it’s pretty nice. The Coast Blue color is really attractive: modern, understated, and easy to spot without being too flashy. The bigger carry-on size adds some much needed space for overpackers like me, and it still fits in most overhead bins. The build quality feels solid, and a good value for the price. For a softside case, the nylon exterior is sturdy and protective, and it doesn’t feel flimsy the way some fabric suitcases can. The zippers feel smooth and strong, which is important since they’re more of a stress point on a softside compared to a hardshell. They don’t snag or catch, and the expandable zipper adds some nice flexibility when you need a little more room. The spinner wheels roll smoothly, and the overall design still has that clean Away look I’ve come to like. That said, there’s one small drawback worth mentioning: it’s almost two pounds heavier than Away’s hardshell carry-on. That difference adds up when you’re lifting it into an overhead bin or trying to stay under airline weight limits. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s something to consider if you’re already used to the lighter hardshell.Overall, this softside carry-on feels like a functional, well-made, durable option for travelers who want the flexibility of fabric without sacrificing zipper quality or overall sturdiness. While I still love my hardshell, I can definitely see myself using this one regularly, especially when I want a little more give in my packing space.

Great piece of luggage
This is my first Away luggage (but my wife has a few pieces). It is very well constructed and has a well thought out design. Although they are more expensive than others, the quality and design make it worth the cost.Starting from the outside, this has two compartments. The first is a small wallet size compartment at the top. It is not very deep, but is deep enough for a passport length wise, and can hold several other items. It is perfect to hold things like your wallet and watch as you go through security. The second compartment is perfect for documents, or a laptop. There is a decent amount of padding, so I felt that my laptop was rather safe. It easily held my 14 inch laptop, but my guess is that it would not hold anything bigger than 15 inches. Both compartments are rather discrete as well, so they would not be an obvious target while traveling.Opening up the bag is not as you would expect. Instead of a traditional split in the middle, this opens up at the top, allowing for one large compartment. Like other away bags, it does have a divider than can be cinched down and split your bag in two, but it is nice that you have the full height of the bag to place items in.Finally, the bag does expand to make it bigger. Once expanded, the bag has a reinforcement on the bottom to help keep it from sagging.I would highly recommend this bag!

I’m A Fan
The first thing you will notice is how smooth the wheels are.Away is by far the best luggage I’ve ever owned. This is my fourth piece from them and my first softside.Like the other items I have, this one is incredibly made. You can feel the quality, which is very noticeable especially if you are coming from cheaper competitors. The one thing that I didn’t expect, being a soft suitcase, was the weight. I was expecting it to be much lighter than the hard suitcase from them of similar size. It’s actually pretty heavy, which may be a problem for some, especially if you are using it as a carry-on. Now it’s not incredibly heavy, but it’s much heavier than expected for its size, maybe a better way to describe it would be how dense it is.The quality isn’t the only thing that sold me on the brand, it’s the warranty, which is why I don’t mind paying the higher cost for their products. I got sick and tired of wheels and other things breaking on all of my old luggage, which is what made me search out better offerings. If the weight isn’t a problem for you and the size works, get it. You absolutely will not be disappointed in it or their other products.

Lovely bag with a substantial price tag!
Really lovely bag. It’s soft sided, which I prefer. It allows you to place more inside and navigate it into those overheard compartments on planes more easily. It looks grey in my pics but it’s a dark dusty blue. It has nice working zippers and a couple zippered compartments for storage. The strange thing is the moveable flat piece with two mesh storage pockets. The flat piece is not removable, but it’s moveable. I gather this is so you can place it in the bottom of the suitcase or use it as some kind of divider. It’s strapped in and I can’t figure any way to remove it, but it’s not a huge deal, just a little strange. The suitcase comes with a lock (which is useless if traveling by air) and a nice luggage tag and strap. The wheels spin nicely and it can travel in any direction. Handle comes up and down smoothly.I know Away bags have a cult-like following and indeed, this is a nice bag, but not sure it’s worth the hefty price tag? I mean, it’s quite pricey! Almost knocked my rating down for that reason alone, but I guess time will tell. It is a lovely bag, but its worth will be determined by how long it lasts, how durable the zippers and handle and wheels are, and if it can withstand the beatings it will inevitably take from the airlines!

Away’s Softside Bigger Carry On (23 inches)
As a forewarning, the 23-inch carry-on bag can be too big for most international flights or airlines with strict 22-inch height restrictions. Away actually has a list on their website showing where the Bigger Carry-On is accepted and where it isn’t, so I’d suggest doing a little due diligence before deciding between this one or the normal-sized carry-on.The quality of the bag is surprisingly good. Not too heavy. Despite being “softside,” it feels sturdy and has a stable look that doesn’t really flex. The wheels glide smoothly across all surfaces. There are two front pockets, a smaller one and a larger one, but they’re kind of tight so best for smaller items. The inside has a lot of pockets to keep organized, a divider, and enough space to pack for a few days of travel. Very roomy. It also comes with a small TSA lock in case you don’t already have one. The bag can be unzipped to expand about an inch in width if things get tight inside.I don’t really have much to complain about, especially since I don’t travel internationally that much. This bag does offer more space than the standard-size carry-on, which can be a blessing from time to time. My preferred airline seems fine with this larger size, so I’m thankful I have a use for it.

I prefer the 22″, but this is still a gorgeous carry-on
I feel almost silly for how excited I was to receive this Away softside carry-on. I’ve loved all the Away products I’ve tested, and this one is no exception. The fabric is a beautiful and durable dusty blue, the corners and handles are reinforced, and it rolls like a dream (even my toddler can push it around!). It’s pretty similar in size to the 22″ one, which makes sense since it’s only an inch bigger (see the pictures for a size comparison; it’s on the left). 22″ is the general max allowed size for carry-ons for major airlines for domestic flights, and 23″ is the general max allowed size for carry-ons for major airlines for international flights. I can fit 1-2 additional outfits into this one that won’t stuff well into the other one, which could be a big deal for a trip for which I’m only bringing a carry-on. Personally, I like having a bag that I can use for domestic OR international trips, so if I could only pick one, I’d go with the 22″, but having both, I’m happy to have the extra room for international travel. And everything packs tight thanks to the compressive layer inside and the durable clothes straps/buckles. There’s also the traditional mesh zipper on the inside of the “lid” part. Overall, there’s nothing novel about this suitcase, but it’s a classic piece of luggage that looks classy and quality.

Professional carry-on
This is a quality carry on suitcase. It holds a good amount for a short weekend trip or standard business trip. The zippers are smooth and easy to zip /unzip. It looks really nice and professional, the color is nice and I like the feel of the fabric. The only thing I’m not a fan of is the front pockets, they’re pretty stiff and it’s hard to get my hand inside, I can’t imagine it’d hold anything easily. I don’t like putting my laptop in my roller carry-on incase it has to be checked.Otherwise this is a great suitcase. I have a hard sided Away carry on that has lasted for 6 years through tons of travel as both a carry-on and checked bag. I expect this one to do the same. These bags are pricey but last way longer than any other bag I’ve ever had. Don’t forget to get the luggage tag from the box, it’s into the lid of the box and easy to accidentally throw away.

Fantastic carry-on for most major airlines
Very nice suitcase. Enough space to pack for a week-long solo work trip. Or for 2-3 days with two people over-packing. The coast blue color doesn’t show dirt, but stands out easily on a conveyer. Smooth snag-free zipper. Wonderful interior and storage features. Silky smooth wheels and spinning. The 23″ size meets requirements for most major airlines for carry-on luggage. Long enough handle for me at 6’1″. Comfortable telescopic handle and side fabric handle. Exceeds our wants for a great bag. My wife praises the interior compartments the most. These bags are where function meets form. I believe the quality and features merit the price. Be sure to check your airlines’ size and weight restraints. Don’t be surprised if it has to be checked for weight!
