A Fantastic Portable Option Even for Sunny Day
I am with Amazon since around 2000, and I started with Kindle keyboard. I switched to Fire for multitasking and better screen. I am still actively using HD6 for size and portability, but glare was always a problem. So I decided to give a try to this smallish 6 inch kindle with slim cover, and it is fantastic.I am a reader, and I read few hours a day every day. I can use my phone for web and email, and occasional youtube. For long reading time both outdoors and indoors, at home and traveling, this simple kindle model is terrific. It is bright enough, has enough fonts and other settings, no glare, and reasonably long time on a single charge. A screen is responsive enough. WiFi is working well, books are downloading fast enough.A full price is all right with free three months of unlimited, and I’ll be waiting for a sale to get a backup. I am addicted to reading, you see, so I got to have a backup for a peace of mind. This 6 inch reader even in a cover is slimmer than fire HD6 and fits into any normal pocket. Very portable. For readers like me who don’t need any experimentation with features and settings, it is a truly fantastic option. No bells and whistles, just reading. I am extremely pleased.

Very pleasantly surprised!
I have to admit I was not sure I would be OK with a small screen. My husband reads his Kindle books on his phone and I just can’t. So I thought this was getting very close and had trepidation. However given the price point, I really wanted to give this newest Kindle a try for two reasons. Arthritis in my hands and travel.I use a mini iPad for most all of my Kindle reading, primarily because I love the page turning feature and like the option of being able to jump to other options—messaging or the Amazon app etc. if I just quickly want to, while reading. Also because I love full color for home page and certain art books and other selected books. However, while small, it is a bit heavy. This new Kindle is just right and light. I love it. I can put this in my purse and it’s not going to weigh it down. Something very important to me as well. It’s so slender too. I would get that clear cover though, that helps with the grip, and does not add to the thickness. The screen is so crisp. I am a 67 year old who has had cataract surgery but still have floaters. So the screen, brightness, crispness and the ability to comfortably hold the device is important to me. Knocked all of those out of the park as well. I can hold this thing for hours and even with arthritic hands not feel pain. I don’t need to rest it on anything while reading and that’s a game changer.I am of course aware I can change the font, but I didn’t want a screen so small I’d have to make the font so large I’d get only a paragraph per page. I find that this size is like a better, brighter paperback book where I can slightly tweak the font to perfection giving me that book experience which also is important to me.Page turning is instant. Perfect.Battery is a workhorse. Best yet. Hours later still at 90% which I have NEVER had on any device using it even with moderate use.The photo shows the size of my mini iPad on the left. So while the size difference isn’t that much, the weight is.I own other much older Kindles. A Kindle Fire. An IPad. And various other electronics including other digital readers I really like. For travel. For going to a Dr.’s appointment, for just taking this with, hands down, this is the best. I LOVE it and didn’t think I would so much! I love it so much I’m using it more and more around the house even though I prefer full-color on my home page and the page animation!

All That A Kindle Should Be
This is everything that a Kindle should be and none of the extra fluff of the other models. My journey to arrive started with an older paperwhite that I regretfully traded in on the colorsoft. The color model is terrible and you can find my review on that device page should it interest you. After returning the colorsoft I tried the current scribe and while nice, it is much too large to enjoy reading on. So after returning that one I decided to throw one last effort and try the basic model and I’m glad I did. This version is compact, 6 inch screen with a high PPI, can fit in a pocket if needed, and has a good dark mode. Dark mode on the more expensive models is ruined by a ring of light around the whole border, this is eliminated here because the glass and screen tech are much closer together than the more expensive models. I also like how the screen is recessed a bit on this one as it cuts down greatly on accidental touches.Save your money and buy this model for it’s simplicity and reading enjoyment.

Great small size!
At the moment I have 3 Paperwhites, all different editions, and this one is my favorite. I love the size! It fits so nicely in my small hands and fits in my small purse, as well. It’s perfect for travel. Just don’t leave it on a plane in the compartment on the seat in front of you like I once did. What a nightmare getting it back, plus I had to read on the Kindle app on my phone for my whole vacation. All the functions work as they should and the settings are easy to navigate. The battery life is amazing! I love switching covers on my Kindles and there so many nice ones available for this version.

Ads vs No Ads
This is my first Kindle. I originally bought it Ad Supported thinking I wouldn’t be bothered based off other reviews. But the ad is the Lock Screen. Meaning, when the kindle is turned “off”, the screen does not go blank/black, it defaults into a random ad. Some ads are book recommendations (though they don’t feel targeted toward me, so maybe just sponsored) and others are Kindle Unlimited subscription ads and things of that sort.I decided to pay to have ads removed, as I found the “always on” screen distracting. HOWEVER, now the Lock Screen defaults to a randomly selected stock image photo of nature or art of some form. I was hoping I might get to choose my own, or have the option to just have a blank screen. Maybe I don’t understand kindles, but regardless, I don’t love that. A case with a cover might remedy this. The Home Screen of the kindle presents book recommendations and current reads. I like that just fine.I transitioned to the kindle after only reading on my phone via the Libby app. For me, reading on the kindle is harder- specifically, it is harder to navigate chapters if I wish to go back, I cannot immediately see how many pages are left in a chapter (only minutes), and turning the pages is a little more sensitive. That being said, I prefer the screen of the kindle to my phone. My eyes don’t hurt. I can read while I walk. I don’t get dizzy or strained. The size is perfect for me. I have 5’10” woman sized hands and it still sits so comfortably in them. The color is beautiful. I recommend it, but with a grain of salt. I imagine as I continue to figure it out, I will come to love it more.Note: I put my kindle in dark mode and selected a smaller font size than default

Didn’t Think I Needed It…. Totally Converted Now!!
I used to be firmly in the “I’ll just read on my phone” camp. But after using this Kindle? I’m a full-on convert. It’s crazy lightweight, and the design is super sleek, nothing bulky, nothing flashy, just simple and really nice to hold. Feels like it was made to disappear in your hands (in the best way). The screen tech is wild. Doesn’t strain my eyes at all, even after long reading sessions. No headaches, no glare—just easy reading that somehow feels like paper. There’s no color, but let’s be real… the books I read don’t need it anyway. As for audio quality, I did test out the Audible integration with Bluetooth, and it works great. No weird drops or tinny sound. Pairs easily and does what it’s supposed to do. If you like bouncing between reading and listening, it totally holds up.

Recommended as a reading device. Compact, nice screen, lightweight, good battery life.
Moving up from reading on my cell phone Kindle app I decided to go with this device, since it is the smallest and lightest. My review after using about a month — First, I don’t have any desire to move to the larger Kindles since this one is so light, compact and portable. It fits in some pockets. Performance: slow processor, clunky and sluggish navigation through menus and library, but fast enough for its main use, reading. Battery lasts several days without charging. Page turning is fast, but sometimes if you don’t pay attention and double tap you can jump ahead and without frequent bookmarks you can lose your place. The screen is much easier on the eyes than my cell phone. It is black and white, with no “blue-light reduction,” but it is easy to adjust the brightness for different locations. It takes a little while to learn how to navigate the menu items. Conclusion: as a reading device it is 5 stars. Non-reading functions are 3 stars. But you buy it to read, so I Recommend It.

Best Purchase I’ve Made For Someone Who Is A Avid Reader
I’ve been looking to buy a kindle for a few years now and now I decided to get one . At first , I was skeptical on how small it was but once I started to use it and read it, that feeling went away quickly . Only complaint is that it was glitching in the beginning of me using it. It has gone away in a matter of 30 mins in its first use . It was slow when I navigated the home section when searching for books , hopefully that won’t come back.I’m glad I went ahead and bought got the ad free option. I think it is worth the price. I couldn’t imagine being distracted or interrupted from an ad when I was into the good part of the book.My goal is to not purchase books on the kindle and to take advantage of the kindle unlimited/prime . Almost all of the books that I want to read are in kindle unlimited and prime so I think the subscription is worth it too especially if I’m trying to save money.I’m also doing a 3 months free trial so I think that’s fair. I am really enjoying the kindle and I think it fits my preferences . I bought the matcha green 16 gb 11th generation . It takes type c charge .I wanted the pink one but opted for the matcha which to me, the color gives a calming aspect . I also prefer how easy it is on the eyes and how crisp and clear the letters are . You can change the settings to your preference.I love it!

***Star rating due to poor product listing & terrible customer service not device itself
***Customer service/advertisement portion: I am brand new to kindle. I’ve always had iPads and used the kindle app to read. I decided to buy a kindle to read The Apothecary light novels on since they’re more readily available on e-readers than published physical copies. Since I was buying a kindle specifically for one series I decided to purchase the original kindle with its simple formatting. Ads are not a big deal to some people but for me I found it rather interesting that kindle had ads in general coming from an Apple user. I just personally don’t need the distractions encouraging me to buy/consume more than what I already have. At of the time of writing this review there is no option to upgrade to ad-free when bundled. As a new user I rather wish there was an option so one could be set to go once their order is placed without the need to restart a device but it’s not a big deal. To go ad-free, one would have to go to account, my devices, select the kindle, and click to remove offers. There’s a $20 fee and you’re set to go. Easy. I don’t recommend using chat for troubleshooting issues as Amazon representatives are EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE via chat and aren’t understanding at all. I had to chat with three different people to explain to me what was going on. As a new user to kindle I was confused about the mix up because I’ve only used apple devices with the kindle app. In short, if you ever need help troubleshooting DO NOT USE THE CHAT BOT! They are very aggressive and I hade an extremely rude customer support representative who purposely deflected my concerns. Call Amazon directly and speak to a representative and they can guide you in a better way without any rudeness. Honesty, I’m taking a break from Amazon prime. I just wanted something for cozy reading. It should not have taken all of that to gain light on an issue. I’m here to update customers that this bundle listing needs to be updated which can be a little confusing for some customers especially if you’re giving this away as a gift.***As far as the device itself, it’s so adorable! I have suffered from migraines most of my life and this is just perfect! Without ads or distractions it’s really easy to focus on the content of what one is reading. I took a gamble and decided to purchase this over the paper white due to its light weight, beautiful color (reminiscent of Apothecary Diaries and Spy X Family), and its compact size. I made the perfect choice! I thought that I would prefer a bigger screen to read books on since that’s often closer to a standard book size, but it seems that I don’t. As soon as my kindle arrived it was truly love at first sight. Okay, I don’t need a man, just my precious, baby kindle, lol! Seriously, it’s so cute!! Again, I was hesitant to buy a kindle as an Apple user and was afraid that the quality wouldn’t be great. I’ve experienced a lot of bugs and ads from non apple devices so this felt like a leap for me. I was not disappointed. The quality, value, and price are really great for what you get. I’m used to a warm, amber light setting on tablets and this kindle does not have one. However, I tested this and it DOES NOT affect/trigger my migraines at all!! That is SO RARE for someone like me who is on several migraine medications. So rare! It made me super happy. I suspect it’s due to the paper-like screen quality. There’s no glare which reduces the amount of light reflected which is great for my migraines! What I love most about it is its simplicity. I can toss it around on my bed or load it in my work bag without a problem or much fear of damage. The screen responsiveness is also amazing. No lagging, simple and effective. It’s only an inch wider than my iPhone and I’m just absolutely in love and obsessed. I can’t believe I’ve waited over 15 years to buy a kindle. If you’re someone who has never purchased a kindle I highly recommend starting here. I don’t mind that there’s no color, camera, bells and whistles…the simplicity is worth it. Give it a try, at this price there’s nothing to lose! Happy reading especially to those who suffer from chronic migraines. I hope this helps☺️

Traded in my 2011 Kindle Touch … thoughts on this new Kindle
So I’ve been a Kindle reader for more than two decades — solidly in love with these little creatures. Most recently I TOTALLY FILLED my 2011 Kindle Touch, and its battery was no longer holding a charge like it used to, so I decided it was time to buy my third Kindle. I’ve had it about a month now, and the learning curve was real. The set-up, etc. is different from my (very old) Kindle; this is not good or bad — just saying, I wouldn’t get this new Kindle and expect to be “up and running” immediately. I strongly recommend you pick up a sticker from Decal Girl to give your Kindle a personality and a name. My third Kindle’s called Button.I spent significant time researching what I personally really wanted /needed, and I decided that — in addition to basic Kindle services — I wanted small size, large storage and a lighted background. I don’t need color or waterproofing. It came down to this Kindle or the Paperwhite. I’m not sure I chose right.First, the things I love: First, the things I’ve loved about all my Kindles: I can hold over 2500 books in my hand — no need to own /dust bookshelves. I can take ALL my books on vacation (or just to the dealership while my car’s being serviced). And my books do not turn yellow with age. The lighted background is fantastic — it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time, and it does not disappoint — on our last vacation, my bedside light was poorly placed /made reading hard — that’s not a problem anymore. And I can read while my husband watches football /he doesn’t complain that my light makes a glare on the TV. The light is adjustable. Yes, the backlit Kindle is WONDERFUL! I use the touch-dictionary pretty often, and I love that this Kindle “saves up” the words I’ve checked, and I can quiz myself with flashcards through the Vocabulary Builder feature. I like the option to use black pages /white lettering or to change the font.Things I don’t love: The biggest thing is that the “sidebars” are too narrow — and I have small hands — I hold mine by its sides, and I often accidentally touch the screen without meaning to, prompting the machine forward or back accidentally. I’m thinking of adding a PopSocket to the back — maybe that’ll help. I think the slightly-larger PaperWhite might be better in this regard. It’s also incredibly thin — it feels insubstantial in my hands. It’s slower to turn on than my old Kindle — I must push the button at the bottom, and for a few seconds it says “Waking up”, then I have to swipe to open it. True, we’re talking about a few seconds, but I don’t love that. The battery does not last as long as my old Kindle Touch — but I feel sure that’s about the lighting, and I’m very willing to plug in more often for that.Overall, I’m very pleased with my Kindle, but I do wonder if I would’ve been happier with the slightly-larger Paper White.
