Awesome camera with easy instructions and compatibility

Excellent security camera that’s easy to install and pair with an existing system. The battery lasts forever. Ours has been on the same charge for over a year now, and is at about 40%.

    Great camera light combo.

I am very pleased with this camera. The setup and install on my garage was quick and easy. It connected to my Arlo base easily within seconds. I am amazed on how bright the light is. My garage sensor light just stopped working and that gave me the idea to add this to my system. It looks well made and durable and should have no problems outdoors. I do not think i will have any battery life issues because i purchased the outdoor power cord. I do recommend the cord because it increases the light brightness adding increased security to my home. I will give it about 6 months and do an update.

I want to like it, but poor support and connection problems are frustrating

****updated Nov 1, 2020**** Poor support.I submitted a request for support through the Arlo app TWO WEEKS AGO and have not received a response. Unacceptable. Lowering to one star and I unfortunately I cannot recommend this item anymore after connection issues despite a very strong wifi network, and non-existent support.***updated oct 2020*****When the camera is working, it’s 5/5 stars. Clear picture, good notifications. But I’ve had intermittent connection issues over the first month I’ve had it. It will inexplicably lose connection from the wifi network for hours or even a day, and then suddenly reconnect, despite having a “strong” wifi connection according to the Arlo app. Annoyingly, I don’t get a notification when it has disconnected. When I stand next to the device I get 400-500mbps on my phone (gigabit internet), so signal strength should not be an issue. Still, the camera will randomly disconnect or at least show as disconnected in the app. I’ve also noticed that it will occassionally miss obvious motion events (like my car pulling into the driveway and me bringing groceries in) without ever registering a motion event. I’m assuming this is a time when it has disconnected but since I don’t get a disconnect notification I have no idea.So when the camera works, it’s great. But the connection issues are a concern. I was planning on getting more Arlo cameras but I’ve paused that for now.******End updateI got this for my driveway since I was in need of both a Floodlight and camera. Installation was very easy and the device connected quickly to my wifi network. I’m happy with the 2k video quality, it’s nice and clear. The app is pretty easy to use. The light is very bright although it does seem to take a second or two longer to recognize motion and turn on than a standard floodlight. One thing I’m always concerned about with these battery cameras is recording delay and notification delay. The recording delay seems to be 2 or 3 seconds from the time the camera detects motion before it will record. From a home security standpoint, that can be important. This can be eliminated if you attach a charging cable (sold separately) to the unit, then it will use what Arlo calls “foresight” and automatically record the 3 seconds before the camera detects motion. After playing around with this camera, I think it will be necessary for me to get the cable since I don’t want to miss anything. I’ve had a few hiccups with getting timely notifications on my phone. A few times there was a 10 minute delay, but most other occasions I’ve gotten notifications in 4 or 5 seconds. Also, the battery has gone down about 25% in 4 days of use. I have been using it a lot since I’ve been messing with the settings, but at this rate the battery barely lasts 2 weeks. Getting the charging cable will also take care of this issue, so I’m not too worried. My biggest overall impression of my first Arlo device is that it’s a good camera on battery only, but has the potential to be a great camera with attached power (AC or solar, both sold separately), since the power eliminates most of my complaints.

Perfect for my carport area and walkway

This floodlight and camera are exactly what I was looking for! Easy to set up and recharge the battery. The light comes on when motion is detected. You can adjust how sensitive it is in the settings. You can also adjust the brightness of the light.

    Awesome Camera

The media could not be loaded.

Absolutely love this camera. I bought it on prime day and it was about half off. It is pretty easy to set up and install, has great video quality during day or night, and has a lot of customization on the what motion will trigger it. I live in a busy street and am able to create zones to prevent it from detecting motion every time a car drives by. The floodlight is insanely bright and it has a dusk to dawn feature to prevent it from turning the light on during the day. The battery lasts about 3 months and charges pretty quickly. I had a masked person walk up to my house recently in the middle of the night. The camera sensed the motion and sent an alert to my phone immediately. It also spot lighted them, which deterred them from trying to break in. I wish it hadn’t happened at all, but it’s terrifying to think of what might have happened if I didn’t have the camera, or if I had a camera that didn’t light up when it saw motion. I’ll be buying another one for my back door now. You do have to have an Arlo subscription for it to save video clips, but it’s very inexpensive. I think for a single camera, it’s like $2 a month and it’s around $10 a month for unlimited cameras. You get a free trial period when you first get the camera, but in my opinion it’s worth the few dollars for the extra features. It’s worth noting that the camera still works without the subscription, it just lacks some of the features that you would want out of a smart security camera.

    Exactly what I wanted!

I was looking for a flood light for my driveway that had wonderful color night vision. The Arlo floodlight has not disappointing so far. I also purchased the charging cable because I didn’t wanna have to worry about batteries or solar I just wanted to direct power source. The light is very bright I actually even had to tone it back some on the app because it was blindingly bright lol. It has wonderful color night vision, great sound And picks up pictures very clearly. I also like the fact that you can turn on a siren if anything seems suspicious. I wanted to flood light so it would pick up great pictures at night in addition to the fact that it lights up my driveway very nicely without having to turn on the house lights. It is a great security issue at night. I have it set up so it shows my whole driveway and who is coming to my front door. And that’s all I really needed it for and I love it. Would definitely buy again and would definitely refer to my friends and family

    Great camera…

12345We are absolutely impressed so far with this product! The solar panel is a must to go along with the floodlight for constant daily charging because this camera picks up everything! The light is amazing at nighttime! Illuminates everything without being blinding. We have only had this product for a week now, but truly would recommend! Also, video quality phenomenal without having to sacrifice battery life.Only con would be, if you don’t have the solar panel; charging is a pain. They send you one kind of charger but this item is more easily charged by the magnetic charger that they do not include and is sold separately.

    Functional, but quality issues

UPDATE. With the mounting plate replaced, and the unit mounted, I can add a couple of stars to the rating.I bought the Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera to upgrade the Arlo Pro camera guarding my driveway. I liked the idea of adding a floodlight to the driveway as an extra security measure. Around the house, have six Arlo Pro cameras powered by solar panels and six Arlo lights. On the front door, I have an Arlo Pro camera and an Arlo doorbell camera. Also, I have a couple of Arlo Qs inside the house. In other words, I’m a long-time Arlo user and have generally been an Arlo fan.I had to order a replacement for the mounting plate because I made the mistake of using the screws that came with the unit to mount the unit to wood. Even with pilot holes, the screw head stripped, and I damaged the cheap plastic mounting plate trying to get the screw out. My bad. I’ve worked with Arlo stuff long enough not to trust the cheap components that come with it. Arlo customer service was accommodating and sent a replacement mounting plate. I went to the hardware store to buy wood screws and used them to mount the replacement mounting plate.Using wood screws, the installation was simple, took a few minutes. A concern, the only thing holding the big unit against the wall is a tiny screw. Even when it is screwed in tightly, the unit still twists on the mount; so, we’ll see how long the mounting lasts. Also, mounting the heavy unit on a plastic mount seems risky; the unit wobbles in the wind. I recommend that Arlo rethink the mounting plate option, replacing it with a deeper metal plate for–at least give the impression of–improving quality. The image quality is exceptional, and the floodlight brightly lights the entire front yard. The floodlight triggers almost instantly, about 1 second lag time from motion to light. I wish I could say the same for the camera. Even with the strongest Wi-Fi and fastest Internet connection money can buy, my Arlo Pro cameras have a 5-8 second lag. I was expecting a similar lag time with the Arlo Pro Floodlight Camera. I was disappointed to find that the lag time is usually worse, from 8 to 20 seconds. I know that Arlo might blame that on the Wi-Fi network or distance from the base. But, the lag time remains the same if I test it five feet from the router without any obstructions. That means someone can walk from one end of the view to the other, and the camera only captures them leaving the view. The motion detection is strong. Set at 80%, the light and camera capture movement up to 35 feet away, easily covering the entire driveway and sidewalk.I can’t speak about the battery life yet. But, be prepared for a huge battery. The battery is 3 times longer than the standard Arlo battery, but it still fits with the same charger. I have a mount for an Arlo solar panel that I used for the Arlo Pro camera. However, Arlo Pro Floodlight Camera requires a different solar panel ($60) or a different outdoor cable ($50 for 25 ft.) for external charging. I’ll wait for the first battery charge to wear out before buying the solar panel. The auto-tracking feature is kind of cool but seems experimental at best. It degrades the images. Also, it has difficulty tracking the motion. It gets confused if there are multiple moving objects in the frame. For example, if I’m walking in the driveway, it focuses on the flag waving on the edge of the view.PRIOR REVIEWI will update this once I have a working system mounted. Meanwhile, a tip:If you’re mounting the Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera on wood, toss the screws that come with it and get some real wood screws from the hardware store. The screws that come with the unit melted. The heads stripped as I screwed them in by hand. And, yes, I drilled pilot holes. Attempting to hack saw the screw, I damaged the cheap plastic mounting plate and had to call customer service for a replacement.I blame myself. As a long-time Arlo user with seven cameras, six lights, and five solar panels, I learned long ago that Arlo’s functionality is solid. Still, Arlo components are cheap, especially the mounts and the mounting screws. I usually buy third-party components before mounting Arlo equipment; but, no third-party mounting components are available for the floodlight camera.Meanwhile, as an Arlo user and fan, a suggestion for Arlo: Sweat the small stuff! Improve the quality of the components. This heavy and long unit should include a wall mount made from metal and quality screws for wood.

DO YOUR RESEARCH! Hardware itself is okay, but anything beyond that is not worth the money

My review is two part: (1) the product itself, (2) Arlo overall. In summary, the product itself is not really worth it unless you just want to be able to check in on the live feed and get motion alerts for things happening immediately in its focused area. Otherwise, expect to pay out the nose trying to get a system working the way you want it, only to find out it doesn’t work the way you think it will. The product:The first floodlight camera arrived and after installing it and testing it out for a few days I noticed that the audio was horribly muffled as if it was underwater. You could talk to it head on and nothing could be heard. I was able to get the floodlight exchanged really easily with little headache (thank you Amazon). After installing the exchanged product I was able to verify no audio issue second time around.2K recording is decent during the day. When cars pull directly into my driveway I can make out the license plate number fairly clearly. The same cannot be said for the night time footage. I license plate could only be clearly read if the floodlight turns on and the car headlights aren’t reflecting too brightly. The motion detect is hit or miss, I’m not sure why some days it does great and others it struggles. It took me 2 weeks of daily adjustments to get the motion areas just right so it didn’t trigger when cars would drive by, but it would trigger when I had people walking passed or up onto the property. The service:I can’t speak to what the experience is like without paying for Arlo. I imagine if you plan on using this for free, it is worthless. I wanted the full functional experience so I opted to pay the $15/mo for Arlo Secure Plus. This allowed for the ability to have 4K cloud recording, 30 days of cloud history, custom activity zones, smart (and rich notifications). The smart notifications is this product/services only redeeming quality. When motion is detected, Arlo sends you a notification letting you know if the motion is a person, animal, vehicle, or just general motion. This was really cool, at first, until it triggered a notification for something overnight that I wanted to follow up on. Unfortunately, the motion detection triggered a person prowling around, but I was not able to see all of there activity or see where they came from or where they went because the camera only recorded the motion trigger and about 30 seconds after the fact. Frustrated by this, I went to Arlo support to find out that a service option for continuous video recording (CVR) was available for $9.99/mo per camera. I figured I only really needed my main camera to be opted in to keep costs down. Well, I looked all over Arlo support and spent days, if not a few weeks e-mailing back and forth with Arlo to finally find out that the only way you can opt in to CVR is if you have an Arlo smart base. Frustrated by this, I gave in and purchased a kit that included 2 – 4k Arlo Ultra 2 cameras and a smart base. Got the smart base all set up with no problem and even opted to insert a class 10 SD card into the base of it to backup video clips. Fast forward a few months and disaster strikes again, this time for my neighbor, who asked me to see if I had captured anything. I reviewed the camera I had opted into CVR and found that I had captured the entire crime from start to finish. Then, I tried to export the video to provide it to them and law enforcement, but ran into my next big headache… there was no option on either the app or while logged in on a browser to export the video. Again, I found myself researching for an answer for an hour or so to find that the consensus was to use a third party screen capture software. This is unacceptable! My camera obviously didn’t record it off a motion even because I have it set up to not go off every single time a leaf twitches on my street. So, I took a screen capture of the video and provided it to my neighbor, but seeing as it didn’t really provide suspect information, it is probably worthless. Even if it had, I question whether any such evidence would be suitable for the court as I have no way of exporting it and having the metadata show when it was actually captured. A screen capture obviously will only show the time of when my screen capture occurred.Overall, I’m incredibly disappointed because I’ve invested nearly $1k into all the equipment, accessories, and service just to find that it is nothing more than an overpriced system for someone far older than me who enjoys just being a nosy neighbor. If I could go back in time and avoid purchasing this I would have. Arlo doesn’t seem to be in a rush to improve any of its products, so I’m not going to hold my breath for it to get better any time soon. Most of the answers to my questions I found have been asked and answered as far back as 2019, so obviously not a whole lot has improved over the years. I bought the system based on how it ranked on some of my favored technology review sites. I guess I should have dug deeper into the systems capabilities. This was my first time setting something like this up, so I really didn’t know what I wanted until it was too late. Next time I’ll buy a wired closed circuit system with a DVR and take the extra time fishing wire through the walls.

Very nice; note that Arlo has very good support if you have problems

I absolutely loved this camera/light system for the first year that I had it–but then it developed a problem. It first went off line a month ago, and I was able to put it back on line following the basic installation process–which isn’t too hard to do. Then it worked for a few weeks and quit again. I was able to re-install it, but it quit working after a few minutes. Repeated installations worked for a few minutes each time and then quit. Through the troubleshooting with the Arlo staff, I probably reinstalled the unit a dozen times. Installations all successful, but short-lived.The Arlo support was accessible, and the staff helpful and friendly, but they could not figure out what was wrong with the unit and we spent about two or three days trying to get it to work. Although I have three other cameras with no issues, they turned to trying to trouble shoot my internet system, as though the unit was not getting a strong enough signal. (The installation location shows a good signal, speed of 55 Mb download and 27 Mb upload). At this point they decided to elevate the matter and arrange for a replacement.Just to be warned, Arolos replacement policy gives you three options: (1) a “swap” where you ship the unit to them (at your expense) and they send the replacement unit after receiving; (2) a $16 deal where they ship the replacement unit to you with a return label or (3) an expedited version of option 2, for about ten bucks more. Any way, it’s not free. And you do have to return the old unit, of course, or they’ll charge you for the new one. I put in for option 2 and will find out how quick it is.All that said, and despite my recent annoyance and frustration, I can’t wait to get the replacement unit and be assured of a reliable unit. In the year we have had this camera we have felt very secure, and the floodlight is a great feature. We have it coupled with a solar charger (recommend) so it has been virtually mainenance free. We love the Arlo system of capturing and saving videos (a subscription service I also recommend).I am nevertheless concerned that our unit quit less than a year after we bought it. My guess is that it has developed some sort of hardware glitch, although a software issue in the subscription support or the app isn’t out ofthe question. I have my fingers crossed that the replacement unit will work flawlessly–which is really the minimum standard for a security camera.***I am updating this review. Since my above post, the camera has finally stayed on line after installation, but again, this was only after spending three days repeatedly re-installing the camera. It seems possible that this is related to the Arlo app itself, or due to a glitch in Arlo’s management of the subscription support/renewal process, but it seems equally possible that there is a hardware problem that could reappear. Arlo’s support has been excellent, and I am upgrading my review to 4 stars. The support team has been very responsive and helpdful, and I will be receiving a replacement camera tomorrow.
